It seems like an end-run around VPNs, and the details kind of fit. Like, there is *no* way that Google/Firefox cannot afford to build a dark mode into their browser when so many third parties have done so successfully. I think Google knows that if they do that, VPNs would be totally anonymous. So, to identify the person behind the VPN, they get their browser to auto-log you into Google services (more tracking; e.g., YouTube, GMail), they flood services with ads so that people get ad-blockers, and they continue mining the data. If you search people's concerns about this, it's usually the same refrain: it's open source, so "you" can check your suspicions.. but most people do not know how to check the code and even people who *do* would spend weeks looking at it before the software updates anyways — at which points the content creators could pretend that back doors were just accidental security vulnerabilities that have since been patched. But... without ad-blockers / dark-readers, you can be tracked too.. perhaps more easily. I also learned a little more about how to increase the video quality when uploading to Imgur... http://imgur.com/gallery/oaJNDsW ..but it still gives a super lossy copy. The original was 3836x1632 and very nice even at a 5MB H.264 encoding, but Imgur crops it to 960x408 at 438Kb. There's a user who knows how to get past this somehow ( http://imgur.com/user/BabyFarkMcGeeZax ), but I don't think he's done a "how to" or anything. The most he's revealed is that he gets the files barely under the 200MB limit. I kept doing things to increase the size, ending up with an 80MB file, but it didn't matter once Imgur's encoders got to it.

Cherub Cow Member	Sat May 15 15:39:55 That was contagious :D .. I finally beat Doom 3!! \:D/ This has been one of the indefinite items on my to-do list, and I finally cleared it. I first installed it when I got an okay laptop in 2004, completed half of it, abandoned it, then reinstalled it again in 2010, same situation (half-way through and abandoned), and now I finally went from start to finish :D It gets a little repetitive in the second half, but the final boss level was a lot of fun, so I played that level a few times in a row. It still jump-scares me a lot in the beginning, but compared to Alien:Isolation.. no contest. Alien:Isolation can be *really* scary. Doom 3 actually lets you fight back, whereas in Alien you mostly have to survive and hide.. unless you're one of those cheater speed-runners who glitch through the game ;) Anyways.. I also need to finish reviewing the last 6 episodes of Star Trek: Voyager. I left off at S7E18. That was a big thing on my to-do list that I abandoned. I can't find the thread, though (no luck on Google or DuckDuckGo), so I'll probably just post them in the regular TV thread. .. Possibly not, partly because rear wheels don't get affected like front wheels do in wheel-to-wheel contact (most of the weight and stability rests in the rear wheel) but mostly if the camera-person was using one of the last few versions of GoPro. GoPro added an almost annoying level of camera stabilization. They film in something like 5k specifically so that their software can automatically crop to a stabilized 4k. I had to turn the feature off on my GoPro 8 because of that — it looked way too smooth, even when making movements that I didn't want to look smooth (like, I might look to the side of the road specifically to get a view of something, but in the video, it would waste several seconds with a slow pan to the view that I didn't want).. better to just do that editing in post so it doesn't look so unnatural. That's my theory, anyways ;p .. "no tagging kid you're trying to kill" lol. That kid almost seemed to have the annoying persistence of the shark in that raft game :D "so you sweep floor, fill gas, run register & fix cars, wasn't nearly as entertaining as the video :p" The commentary really saved that one. I've gone through it three times now (the last was leading up to the series finale). Every conversation becomes more important when you already know all of the characters. The first time through, I kept forgetting names of people because it wasn't clear which characters would be spoken of again (e.g., Lyanna Stark — spoken of, hugely significant, but not shown until season 6) .. Cherub Cow Member	Fri Jun 04 09:01:50 A slow way to lose everything ;) I’m in a flash flood area, though.. so.. knock on wood :D I’ve been playing Escape from Tarkov a bit more (not sure I mentioned getting it). It’s a lot more fun now that I have a good field of view setting. I also ran a video-capture software (OBS) at 30fps 4k without issue. I’ll see if 60fps works, though I had issues at 60fps in DayZ.. it would just record screenshots every few seconds but still made a huge file..

The glass looked like it was hitting behind and beyond the bar, not in the walkway there. Also, the taser may have been the better idea there. She was clearly on drugs (article mentions THC) or out of control, and that compounds with nakedness coming with a risk of infection. E.g., someone in that condition will likely scratch, bite, spit, smear, or use bodily fluids as weapons. England's Charles Bronson comes to mind: he would use nakedness to his advantage in a fight against armed guards (slippery, difficult to grab, with no cloth buffer). It's best practice to get the person to comply before cuffing/touching so that they cannot attack, otherwise officers end up spending a few weeks not sure if their HPV, hepatitis, and HIV/AIDS tests will come back negative. As for comments thinking that social workers could deescalate a situation like that.. No. Often there is no reasoning with someone in the middle of a mental health episode. I randomly remembered this 1983 cartoon that gave me nightmares when I was little: "Unico In The Island of Magic" (Full movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5i5JxOpYnc4 ). In particular, a sequence at about 30 minutes shows people being turned into soulless puppets/automatons. The idea of the main character losing her parents and the parents losing sentience really inspired a deep dread in me ;D
